Natural forms has been an interest of mine for a long time but this interest has been more subliminal until recently. This theme itself runs into almost everything from wallpaper and clothes to anthropometric data and ergonomics. Everybody can relate to it, at least a little bit.

Nick Morley: Bear on a Bike

This is afavourite of mine. It has sparked an interest for printmaking for me. The colour of the bike is a screen print and the rest is a lino cut.
I like many aspects about the print, one being it's a bear. It's quite interesting the way he has created the furriness of the bear. I can see how this would of been made if the white of the paper is what is printed but it isn't. This just shows the talent Nick has as he has managed to create a negative using intricate cutting techniques. A lot of his prints are like this.

The lighting really emphasises the bears face which is quite serious. This juxtaposes the humourous aspect of the picture but doesnt take anything away from it; there really seems like there is some plausability about this depiction, and I think this is why.
The perspective he chose to portray the bear riding the bike was interesting. It looks as it is approaching you rather than passing by which for me, emphasises the anthropomorphic aspect.
